With an eye on Connexion, the new medical complex in Farrer Park set to open in 2013, Mustafa is launching serviced apartments in Race Course Road.

Three adjoining three-storey conservation shophouses on the quiet end of Race Course Road, near Balestier Road, have been renovated to accommodate about 30 serviced apartments and a Lebanese restaurant with a basement carpark.

Mustafa’s building maintenance and fire safety manager Shamim Ahmad told tabla! that the company acquired the three shophouses five years ago and hopes to tap in on the medical tourists to Singapore with the opening of Connexion which will be run by a group of doctors and have 189 clinics, a 220-bed hospital and a 230-room hotel.

“We are hoping the people who go to the hospital will use our apartments and the restaurant. We expect to have the TOP (temporary occupation permit) by March or April. In the meantime, we have to do some internal renovations like getting in the furnishings for the apartments and getting equipment for the restaurant,” said Mr Ahmad.

With the eventual opening of Mustafa’s serviced apartments, the other businesses in the area like Balle Balle Cafe hope to feed off the potential customer base.

Balle Balle owner Hardip Narang told tabla! that he thinks the quiet street, which has two Buddhist and one Chinese temple in the vicinity, will be livened up.

“With Mustafa opening in Race Course Road, I think there will be more developments in the street and hopefully more customers,” he said.
