I have discovered this post today and it is interesting for those who don’t know about “holiday apartment”…. even in Malaysia !!

Serviced apartments aren’t new but few travellers consider them an accommodation option.

A friend recently suggested that instead of balik kampung during the festive season, we explore the city and spend time catching up.
A little research unearthed the existence of several serviced apartments in Kuala Lumpur. We picked PNB Darby Park, within sight of the Petronas Twin Towers for our three-day retreat.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, serviced suites provide full hotel service (housekeeping three days per week in the case of PNB Darby Park), separate lounge rooms and free-standing kitchens. Our suite came with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The kitchen would best be described as a kitchenette although it had sufficient facilities to put together a substantial meal as it had a refrigerator, cutlery, crockery, glassware, microwave and an electric stove and oven.

Cuisine with attitude and altitude Cooking was not on my agenda especially after I had heard so much about The 39 Restaurant on the hotel’s 39th floor.
Although there was seating outdoors, most customers were inside in air-conditioned comfort. I chose a table on the open verandah overlooking KLCC Park with a glimpse of the Twin Towers.
The menu is a fusionist, modernist approach to traditional Malay cooking. I ordered warm baked tuna and scallop mousse with crunchy young mango, served with potato curry and a main dish of braised beef tenderloin with kerutup powder. Dessert comprised steamed glutinous rice and durian paste with ice cream. I also had a mixed fruit and vegetable juice. In line with its halal status, the hotel does not offer alcohol.

Apartment living Perhaps the most admirable feature of the rooms here is the spaciousness. The large lounge room has an adjoining kitchenette, full dining table setting, lounges, plasma television and a workstation with broadband Internet connection.
Two- and three-bedroom suites are perfect for family living as there is enough room for all and yet there’s privacy when required.
The fully furnished rooms are well-maintained and retain their fresh look. My two-bedroom suite came with three plasma televisions so there was little arguing about who was going to watch what and when.
